Western Governors University

Online. Accelerated. Affordable. Accredited.

You want a degree, but you also need the time to earn it. Now more than ever, people need easy access to affordable education that will give them skills and knowledge they can take directly into the workplace. WGU has the solution.

As the nation's only online, competency-based university, WGU focuses on developing a highly competent graduate, not just someone who has accumulated credit hours. In fact, WGU does not award degrees based on credit hours or required courses. Your progress is determined by your ability to pass rigorous assessments-typically tests, projects and a portfolio-that measure your knowledge and skills as you move through your degree program.

Created with the needs of busy adults in mind, WGU offers online programs in three areas: Business, Information Technology, and Education (including teacher certification programs through the WGU Teachers College).

Is WGU Right For You?

Clearly not for everyone, WGU is ideal for the student who can thrive with a high degree of independence. The online delivery of your program gives you great flexibility to schedule your own "class" time. Plus, you may be able to accelerate your degree progress if you commit sufficient time and are willing to study hard to prepare for your assessments.

WGU only accepts inquiries and applications from individuals living in the U.S., Guam, and from U.S. military personnel at overseas installations.

Quick Facts

Online
When your schedule demands flexibility, online learning works well. You access course material online at the time and place you choose. That might be early morning, late at night, or Sunday afternoon.

Affordable
WGU is affordable for almost anyone. Tuition is modest, and lower-income students are often eligible for federal financial aid. WGU is one of only a handful of online universities authorized to offer federal financial aid in the form of Pell Grants and Direct Student Loans.

Accredited
Western Governors University is the only university to have received simultaneous accreditation by four regional accrediting commissions. Currently, WGU's "home" accrediting commission is the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the same organization that accredits such leading institutions as the University of Washington, University of Oregon, University of Utah, BYU, and other public and private colleges. WGU is also nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).
